My kids have an odd relationship with brushing their teeth. While they are eager to “brush” they don’t really do a great job, and getting them to be thorough is always like waging war with them. So when I was asked to try out Aquafresh’s Training Toothpaste and brushes, I thought it would be the perfect time to up our brushing game and get the kids really excited about properly brushing their teeth (and letting mom and dad help!).
One of the things we have the hardest time explaining is that while it is important to practice, sometimes mom and dad have to help a bit to make sure there are no spots we missed. Let me tell you- stubborn and fiercely independent toddlers don’t usually welcome the extra help- but I know their dental health is critically important and this is the age that lifelong healthy habits are formed.
Did you know that compared to your tooth enamel, your baby’s is 50% thinner? That’s why you need expert protection! And that is why it is so important to make brushing a fun experience. With Aquafresh, The little mouth experts ™ we know we’re covered!
When we got our new toothbrushes and toothpaste, my kids were pretty excited. They really, really like the comfortable colored handles – the fatter grips helped them move their brushes better so they could get to all of their teeth.
While the kids brush, we make sure they are standing on a stool watching where their brushes go, and my husband and I sing “brush, brush, brush, brush your teeth! Scrubba scrubba scrubba!” We like to help guide them to make sure the front and back teeth all get special attention, and try to make it a fun game rather than a chore. It helps when we explain they need to re-do some of their brushing or ask them to brush longer to keep the whole affair lighthearted. And of course, after brushing they get a fun sticker as a treat!
Need your own ideas to make brushing fun? Be sure to check out Aquafresh’s page full of tips, fun games and other ways to make brushing fun for your kids. If they love it, they are more willing to stick to it! As always, Please use product as directed on label.
If you’re looking for a fun extra decoration you can hang in your little one’s bathroom, I’ve included this printable (with the little chant we sing to the kids to keep them motivated while brushing) that you can print and frame!
Or you can also print this out and have your little ones fill it up with stickers after brushing. When the page is full from stickers, you could pick out a fun prize to reward their important oral health habit! I’ve included pink, yellow and blue printables.
