Instant Pot Chicken Drumsticks

Air Fryer Chicken Drumsticks

This recipe can be baked, or air fried, so it’s easy to get delicious chicken drumsticks no matter how you’d like to prepare them!

To modify this recipe for your air fryer, please consult our air fried chicken drumsticks recipe or our Air Fryer Piri Piri Chicken recipe and use the Honey Mustard Sauce below in either method.

Crunchy Baked Chicken Drumsticks

The method below will help you to get extra crispy, crunchy drumsticks if you’d like to slightly modify from our recipe below.

Divide the mustard glaze in half – bake partway as listed below, and reserve the rest to baste drumsticks on a wire rack for extra crunch.

After 20 minutes of cooking as listed below, add chicken legs to oven on a cooling rack – over a baking sheet – about partway through cooking.

This helps to lift your chicken off the baking sheet, so air can move evenly around the chicken and crisp it instead of getting soggy in the butter that drips off.

Try to flip chicken drumsticks every 10 minutes to ensure it crisps evenly on all sides.

I prefer using tongs coated with heat resistant silicone coated tongs so they don’t stick to the chicken skin.

With a silicone brush, lightly brush chicken with mustard glaze, flipping its side each time you add another coat of glaze, about every 10 minutes until glaze is used up (which will take about 30 minutes.)

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Drumsticks about 8
  • 2 tbsps Whole Grain mustard
  • 2 tbsps Yellow Mustard
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • ? tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Mix sauce ingredients together in a bowl.
  • Taste, and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as desired.
  • Spray a baking dish with non-stick spray, and place drumsticks in the dish.
  • Pour half the sauce over drumsticks.
  • Bake for 30 minutes.
  • Turn drumsticks over, pour other half of the sauce over top, Bake for another 20 minutes, turn, spoon sauce and juices over the top.
  • Bake for 10 – 15 additional minutes until sauce reduces and the drumsticks cooked through, golden, and saucy.
  • Remove from the oven, and serve.

Notes

Unless preparing as a keto dish, cornstarch should not be skipped, as the chicken will release juices, and the sauce will be too thin. If preparing keto, a guar gum slurry can be used.
