My kids love cooking. They think it's so fun- they love to get in the action, help prepare their meals, and it helps encourage my picky eaters to actually eat- so I try to get them in the kitchen action as much as possible. This isn't so much a recipe as it is a method- a way to encourage kids to make delicious roll-up pizzas- but it is quick, easy, kid-friendly, and SO delicious!
I make this roll-up pizza with three simple ingredients - pizza sauce, cheese, and Pillsbury dough. I buy the pinwheel or pizza dough that comes in a long tube- whichever is on sale.
From there, I just roll out the dough on a lightly oiled surface, and let my kids add the sauce and cheese! I also encourage them to add veggie toppings (broccoli, asparagus and mushrooms usually win) or, if my son is making it, let it go plain.
I then roll up the entire pizza into a long log, and slice individual pinwheels out.
Place them on a nonstick baking sheet and cook at 350 for 10-15 minutes- until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Then let your kids dig in! Its a fun, easy way to make pizza- and gets your kids thinking about preparing food and how they can cook. It also helps open the conversation to healthy additions like veggies- and helps them visualize serving size better than a giant pizza (slice the pinwheels under 1" thick to really be sure you're giving an accurate and not too-large serving).
