When my husband and I got engaged, we talked a lot about rings. At the time, he had moved to a new job that he was taking a bit of a gamble on- an up-and-coming group that wasn't paying a ton. I had just bought a new house and became acutely aware of the costs of homeownership- and we decided to buy a responsible (but pretty) ring that we both loved. We went with a solitaire that I loved-- simple, pretty, and classic.
Over time, I hadn't really worn my engagement ring much. The large profile of the solitaire scratched my kids, so I often just left it off and started wearing a small ring my mom had made with some of her diamonds. The ring was pretty, but I felt like I outgrew it a bit- even though I didn't want to give up the stone we bought originally. Sure, the stone is a tiny bit flawed- there are two small visible spots and it probably isn't the shiniest stone on earth- but it's what fit our budget, and the size I wanted. So when I was approached by Gemvara to try out their Stone Reset service, I was thrilled beyond words. I was so excited to see what I could turn my original stone into! (Be sure to head to the bottom of the post for an awesome deal on your own stone reset service from Gemvara!!!)
Gemvara's Stone Reset is incredibly easy to do- I signed up on their site for a risk-free (and complimentary) ring resize kit with a ring sizer, information, and a secure, insured package to ship my ring in. After receiving my ring, a Gemvara specialist contacted me and showed me quite a few options that would work well with my ring. I was really torn between the strong knot (simple like me, and I love the celtic knot look to it) and the Raquel, which I ultimately chose. I couldn't get the romantic, vintage-style Raquel setting out of my mind!
When I got my ring back a few weeks later, I was stunned. It was even prettier than I imagined-- I love the setting so much! It is set on a band full of small stones, which circle around my 2 carat solitaire. It is very pretty- but not overwhelming. It looks great when I am dressed up, or just in jeans! It's absolutely stunning.
I love how the very small flaws aren't really very visible anymore. The diamonds around my stone reflect more light and make it seem much brighter- it has the most beautiful sparkles! It is very high-impact now, and I can't help but stare at it all day. I love that I got to keep the stone that meant so much as the one my husband first got for me, but in a really gorgeous new setting. I never thought a new setting would change how my diamond looks- but it really, really does!
The setting also doesn't snag as much as my solitaire as it site fairly flat on itself. It does have a high profile, but its not one that will scratch a little kid's face. I think this setting is a better representation of where I am in my life now- and one I can see myself wearing for a long, long time.
I absolutely loved working with Gemvara to create my new ring! I was a little skeptical of choosing a setting out without actually trying it on-- but Gemvara has so many lovely and unique settings, I had no problems finding one I liked. Their selection and prices were really more than I expected, and their service team is really easy to get in touch with, and super helpful in finding the right setting.
I have a few other pieces I might have re-worked with Gemvara in the future- I have some earrings and aquamarines I purchased a long time ago I'd like made into something special. I don't have any stones large enough to put into a setting (I do have a few stones that were earrings of my mother and grandmother which my mom had put into a ring for me a few years ago already) but if I did, I would love to work with Gemvara to find something unique! I loved working with them so much, I am already eyeing out a few new selections from their site.
