Vegan Earl Grey Chocolate Truffles

print recipe
Simple, easy Vegan Earl Grey Chocolate Truffles are sinfully delicious, fast!
These vegan earl gray truffles are AMAZING!
Growing up, I was not a chocolate person. Give me a choice between chocolate and vanilla and the choice would always be vanilla. I just never really had a taste for it. Now though, it’s a completely different story.
While vanilla will always have a special place in my heart, chocolate has worked its way into my life and it’s here to stay. Most days, my treat at night is a square of super dark chocolate, but I’ve also been known to get a little creative in the kitchen with my chocolate recipe.

Typically, I go for a peanut butter and chocolate combination, like in these no-bake peanut butter bars and easy chocolate peanut butter banana bites, but lately I’ve been loving combining chocolate with some other, non-traditional flavors. That’s where these vegan earl grey chocolate truffles come in.

Did you know that making chocolate truffles at home is easy as can be? Because it only takes three ingredients to make these decadent gluten-free and vegan earl grey chocolate truffles. THREE! (Okay, you got me. Maybe 4 or 5 if you like a few optional ingredients.)

The key here in this recipe is all in the chocolate. Buy a chocolate that you like to eat all by itself. I’m not saying you need to buy chocolate that is $20/lb or anything. But, the chocolate is the star in this recipe, so definitely go for a high quality dark chocolate! You won’t regret it.

I brought these truffles to work for my coworkers to try. They’ve been begging me to bring in chocolate truffles since the last time I made them many months ago.
I’m not sure why I hesitated in making them again because honestly they are so easy to make! Within a matter of minutes, the truffles that were put on my desk were gone and everyone was raving about the fact that they couldn’t believe they were gluten-free and dairy-free. My coworkers were OBSESSED with this earl grey flavor that they’re still talking about it days later.
The tea flavor is ever so subtle and marries perfectly with the dark chocolate. Who would have thought that chocolate and tea would go together so well? Not this girl! One bite of these vegan earl grey chocolate truffles and I promise you will be hooked. Not to mention your friends and family will think you’re some type of professional chocolatier.

They are so luscious, creamy and rich that you really only need one to be satisfied… though I easily ate three or four in one sitting because they were delicious!

Author:
Serves: 18 truffles

Ingredients
  • 12 oz (1½ cups) full-fat coconut milk
  • 12 oz (about 2 cups) high quality dark chocolate, chopped (I used a gluten-free and vegan variety)
  • 6 teabags earl grey tea
  • 4 tbsp dark cocoa powder
  • pinch of sea salt (optional)
Instructions
  1. In a small saucepan, heat coconut milk just until it's about to boil.
  2. Remove from heat, add teabags to the coconut milk and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Squeeze tea bags to get any excess tea out of the bag and remove bags from the pot.
  3. Pour coconut milk over the chocolate in a medium bowl.
  4. Let sit for 20-30 seconds.
  5. Using a whisk, whisk from the center to the outside (this helps to not splash the milk everywhere), until the mixture becomes a creamy chocolate.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  7. Take a tablespoon, melon baller, or cookie scoop and scoop out some of the hardened ganache.
  8. Quickly roll the chocolate into a ball (the heat from your hands will start to melt the chocolate so move fast.
  9. Set on parchment paper.
  10. Roll in the cocoa powder and sprinkle with loose earl grey tea if desired.Chill until firm. Keep in the refrigerator until ready to eat.
