First, fold your fabric in half width-wise, so that you have a long, skinny strip of fabric instead of a short, fat strip of fabric.
Cut down the middle of the fold so that you have two long strips.
With the right sides (outside) of the fabric facing inwards together, make a straight stitch at the ends to join the two strips together into one very long strip.
With outside (the side you'd like showing when you wear the scarf) facing up, fold one side over onto the other width-wise, so you now have a very long, very skinny strip.
With a simple straight stitch, sew along the open end of the strip to make a long, skinny "tube" with two open ends.
Turn the fabric tube right side out, and quickly stitch up one of the open ends of the tube.
Tuck the end you just sewed into the other open end of the tube, about 1 1/2" inside the fabric.
Tuck the ends of the open end in about a hems width to create a smooth, even edge.
Sew a straight stitch across the "hem" you just tucked in (with the other end of the scarf still tucked inside.)
Add 1-2 reinforcing straight stitches, if desired.
To wear, wrap in 3 loops.
