The Ranahan By Welk Resorts, Breckenridge Colorado – a family friendly apartment style resort in Breckenridge with full sized washer dryers and a well outfitted kitchen.

I was provided a night’s stay to experience The Ranahan, Welk Resorts newest hotel in Breckenridge, Colorado.

I routinely accept offers from hotels so I can try them for my readers and give you my experience so you can book your own vacation without worry!

Your trust is important to Sweet C’s, and we never cover products, hotels, or experiences we don’t believe in – and we always disclose when we were given a product or hotel stay for review or when we have been paid to promote a brand.

The Ranahan is an all new resort that is meant to feel like your home away from home – in beautiful Breckenridge.

We love heading up to Breck year round for fun – from skiing and sledding (and even dogsledding!!) in the winter, to hiking and one of Colorado’s most fun alpine slides – I grew up spending tons of time in Breck, and am so excited to get to share those memories with my kids.

What to Pack When Visiting the Ranahan

Because of the full size washer and dryers (I can’t say enough how important those are on a ski vacation!), you don’t need to worry as much about what to pack.

The Ranahan’s rooms are all outfitted with full kitchens – so you can hit the grocery store and plan dinners and lunches in.

Because the Ranahan mirrors the Welk Resorts at-home feel, you don’t have to worry about many of the travel essentials you might miss out on by booking an apartment – you still get an apartment feel, but with housekeeping, toiletries, and comfort essentials like a coffee maker and coffee!

It sounds small, but on a ski vacation (which are so fun, but let’s face it – totally exhausting), making sure you have the comforts of home is essential to a trip the whole family enjoys.

What To Pack For a Colorado Vacation At The Ranahan

Layers
-Colorado’s weather, from winter and summer to spring and fall – is in a word – unpredictable.
-Since Breckenridge is a very high altitude town, there are dramatic shifts in temperature throughout the day. Don’t be surprised to have a sweater in summer in the morning – and shorts in the afternoon.
Don’t be shocked when you find yourself skiing without a jacket (I often ski in march and april in a tee shirt!), and then all bundled up for dinner – Colorado vacation clothes need to be layered to be truly comfortable.

Bathing Suits
-The Ranahan is built for all-seasons swimming – from an indoor/outdoor heated pool, indoor waterslide and splash park, and cozy hot tubs facing the mountains perfect to soak away a hard day on the slopes.

Winter Clothes
Breckenridge is well known for skiing – but Summit County offers a large variety of fun winter sports for visitors, including a nordic sports park, lots of sledding and tubing hills, dogsledding, snowshoeing, and more!
While you can easily rent equipment, I think it’s essential to bring your own properly fitting winter clothing. There are numerous stores in Dillon, Breckenridge, and Frisco that carry everything you need – but be advised there is a “mountain tax” (higher prices than say, stores near my home in Northern Colorado) when purchasing clothes or gear in Summit County.
This is another area the Ranahan’s setup is perfect – they have ample closet space to stash all your gear, so you don’t need to worry about the extra outdoor clothes taking up all your room.

Hiking Clothes and Shoes
The Ranahan’s position along the river gives it fabulous access to numerous trails that will take you around Breckenridge, and even the rest of Summit County.
You’re just steps from a bike trail that winds its wayback along the lake to Frisco – and it’s a short ride across Swan mountain to Keystone and A Basin – and of course, popular 14ers like Grays, Torreys, Mount Evans, Mountains Bross/Lincoln/Democrat, and Quandary are all a short drive away.

Know Before You Go

The Ranahan was designed to be a resort that feels like home with full size appliances and a washer and dryer – but also a resort that is close to the action.

There is a bar in the Ranahan’s lobby – but no restaurant – so you can have more of a home feel when on the property.

If you’ve used a mountain shuttle to get to Breckenridge, you don’t need a car at the Ranahan – they have a free shuttle that will bring you around town.

While a car is useful in Colorado, there are lots of free bus routes, especially in Breckenridge and around Summit County that you can easily access.

The Ranahan has a quieter, more relaxing location – it is a little too far to walk into town for food and drinks, so plan on using the shuttle or catching an Uber if you don’t want to drive around Breckenridge.
