The Cutest No-Bake Treat for St. Patrick’s Day: Lucky Charms Treats are basically the fastest way to make something festive and adorable with almost zero effort. They’re soft, gooey, and packed with that nostalgic cereal crunch – plus the marshmallow charms make them instantly St. Patrick’s Day ready (or honestly… just a fun anytime treat).

These are my go-to when I need a last-minute party dessert that still looks like I planned ahead. Melt butter + marshmallows, fold in Lucky Charms, press into a pan, and you’re done!

Bonus: if you save a handful of charms to sprinkle on top, they look extra cute and photo-worthy!

Lucky Charms Treats Ingredients

To make these cereal bars, you’ll need:

  • Marshmallows: Marshmallows are the key ingredient in Lucky Charms Treats, providing the gooey, sweet base that holds everything together. They melt when heated and create a sticky, stretchy texture that binds the cereal pieces, making it easy to form the treats.
  • Lucky Charms: Lucky Charms cereal is the star of this dish, adding both taste and visual appeal. The combination of crunchy oat cereal pieces and colorful, sweet marshmallow shapes creates a delightful contrast in textures and flavors, making these treats fun and enjoyable for all ages.
  • Butter: Butter adds a rich, creamy flavor and smoothness to the dish, enhancing the overall taste. It also helps with the melting and mixing process, ensuring the marshmallows and cereal are evenly combined and preventing the treats from becoming overly sticky or hard to handle.

Steps to Make Lucky Charm Krispie Treats

Prep. Prepare a 9×9 pan by greasing it or rubbing the inside with butter. Set aside.

Melt. In a large pot, add butter and begin to melt on medium. Add marshmallows and stir constantly until mallows melt. You may see slight browning- if your mallows aren’t fully melted as the sugar browns, pull them off the stove and continue stirring. They should melt from the heat.

Mix. Add lucky charms to pan and stir well to combine.

Set. Pour mixture into the 9×9 baking dish and let cool.

Enjoy! When set, cut and enjoy!

Tips to Making Perfect Lucky Charms Treats

Use low heat. High heat can make marshmallows stiff and the treats turn hard.

Save some marshmallows. Stir a handful in at the end for extra gooey bites.

Don’t overmix. Gentle folding keeps the cereal from crushing and helps the treats stay soft.

Press lightly into the pan. Packing them down too hard makes them dense and firm.

Butter your hands or spatula. It keeps everything from sticking while you spread the mixture.

Add extra charms at the top. Makes them extra cute (and very photo-friendly).

Lucky Charm Krispie Treats FAQs

How long do these treats last?

Cereal treats start to harden right away if not tightly wrapped in plastic wrap or an airtight plastic bag to preserve freshness. We recommend enjoying within 2 days for best texture.

Can I dip bars after?

Some people like to dip cereal bars in a bit of chocolate or white chocolate after making them. It gives an extra layer of flavor, and we love to dip in green nonpareils fr Saint Patricks Day!

Why did my treats turn hard?

Usually from overheating the marshmallow mixture or pressing the treats too firmly into the pan.

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes. They’re best within 1–2 days, but you can make them the day before a party.

How do I store these treats?

Store airtight at room temp for up to 3 days. Avoid the fridge—it can make them firm.

Can I freeze them?

You can, but the texture is best fresh. If freezing, wrap tightly and thaw at room temperature.

Can I add other mix ins?

Absolutely—sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, or a drizzle of white chocolate are all great.

I’m going to make these for a employee potluck at work but had a question – I’ve made these before (using someone else’s recipe) but they got rock hard. Will these hold up and stay soft and chewy if I make them the night before to bring to work the next day?

    1. Katherine says:

Yes but only if you cut them up and wrap them up individually in plastic wrap that’s the trick!

  2. Sarah says:

I couldn’t find the size of pan I needed anywhere in your post. I used a 9×13 glass pan and it was far too big. I’d suggest an 8×8 square pan for a single recipe or a 9×13 if doubling.

    1. Katherine says:

Thank you for pointing that out, I will fix it in the recipe, its an 8×8 pan, I use this brand, its really good for sticky recipes like these!

  3. Bette says:

I love that you’re teaching your little kids to cook. I too allow my young grand daughters to help me with everything I do in the kitchen and they are always excited with our projects, take pride and so enjoy whatever we make. One warning is that if you have girls with long hair, tie their hair back away from their face and hanging down their front. Hair could get mixed into food! Or catch fire if they’re stirring at the burner! We are going to make your Lucky Charm Treats next week. This week we baked delicious easy peasy chocolate brownies from scratch.

Wow, this looks so delicious! I cant wait to make them 🙂

  5. amanda says:

can we freeze them for a month ?

    1. Courtney ODell says:

Hey Amanda – If you freeze them, I wouldn’t cut them into squares, so less of the bars are open to frostbite/drying out. Make sure you take all the extra air out of whatever bag you use to freeze it in, and let it refrost naturally (probably on the counter, outside of any bag it was frozen in). The only issue that might arise when defrosting is the rice cereal getting soggy from ice crystals – so i’d put it on a cookie cooling rack or something that will let any water drip down from the treats.
