Easy Homemade Shamrock Gummies

Making homemade chewy gummies is a great activity to do with your kids – these candies are less sweet than store-bought candy, have less sugar, and are customizable – you can use apple sauce or other fruit sauces, and you can add in other flavors as you’d like!

We’re rolling these gummies in granulated sugar and cutting them in a shamrock shape to give a fun and festive Saint Patricks Day vibe – they are so fun for classroom parties, leprechaun treats, and more!

How To Make Shamrock Gummies

To make homemade gummies, you’ll need:

  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce – applesauce gives a light fruit flavor without being overly sweet. You can use other fruit sauces too!
  • 2 1/4 cups granulated sugar – we will use sugar to sweeten fruit candy as well as roll them in for a finished appearance.
  • 2 3 oz boxes of lime Jell-O – lime jello gives us a bright, bold green color and nice flavor. You can use other flavors if you like, but for a shamrock green, we prefer lime.
  • 2 packs of unflavored gelatin – unflavored gelatin helps provide structure for fruit chews and gives them a bouncy, chewy texture.

Use the Following Method

  • Pour all the ingredients into a saucepan.
  • Mix together over medium to high heat. Stir until it reaches a boil.
  • Boil for one minute.
  • Remove from heat and add to a 13×9 pan lined with parchment paper.
  • Place the pan into the refrigerator and chill for 2 hours or until set.
  • Dip the cookie cutter in sugar to help avoid sticking.
  • Cut out the shamrocks and then roll them in a bowl of sugar. Set aside a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
  • Repeat until there is no more room to cut out shamrocks.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, enjoy!

Mix up the color. This recipe can easily be changed to make gummies for other holidays besides St. Patrick’s Day. Add some red for Christmas with an ornament cutter or red, white, and blue streaked for the 4th of July!
