My Epic Trip to Bilbao Spain
I was recently in Basque Country for a conference, and after the conference I was invited by Euskadi – the official tourism bureau for Basque Country – on a press trip to see some of the Bilbao region’s most breathtaking sites along the coast, and sample some fabulous restaurants in the city!
We got to take a riverboat ride on the brand-new electric riverboats thanks to the Bilbao River Company – whose new boat was the perfect setting for a slow, scenic party along the Nervión river/estuary – from the city down to Gexto, underneath the hanging bridge.
We also hiked through the Urdaibai Reserve, one of Spain’s most beautiful ecological heritage areas, visited the famous Oma Forest, and to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (Dragonstone in Game of Thrones).
We also tried local traditional restaurants in Kortezubi (Lezika—you must try the steak, turbot cheeks, and beans with black pudding) and Plentzia (Las Palamas—you must try the steak, frites, and blistered peppers).
The NH Collection Villa Bilbao was our home base for the Basque Coast tour – it was a short walk to the city’s subway (which was one of the cleanest, safest subways I have ever seen) – I can’t wait to visit Basque Country again and spend so much more time in Bilbao and the Basque Coast!
