How to MAke Quick and Easy St. Patricks Day Dipped Oreos
Dipped oreos are one of our favorite holiday traditions in my house – we love making them with my kids and decorating them for holidays. It is so fun to set up all of the sprinkles, icing, and candy melts, and let the kids dive in and try their hand at making their own fun masterpieces – or just making them to pass out as a sweet treat for parties.
St. Patrick’s Dipped Oreo Ingredients
To make these adorable and easy dipped oreos, you’ll need:
- Candy Melts – you can use chocolate or white chocolate, but we find using candy melts (or even coverture chocolate) works best for a smooth, easy melt.
- Oreos – you can use regular oreos, double or mega stuff, minty oreos – the sky is the limit!
- Dipping Mold – this is optional, but we find oreo dipping molds to be game-changers for making dipped oreos! They speed up the time and allow you to get way more chocolate on your oreos, plus get a smooth, even look. Find our suggested mold here.
- Sprinkles – We love shamrock sprinkles, gold sprinkles, nonpareils, and gold coin sprinkles for these oreos!
Steps to Make Dipped Oreos
Once you have assembled the ingredients, use this method.

Melt
Get out two small bowls. Dump the green wafers in one and the white wafers in the other one. Put the bowls in the microwave and start melting by using 30-second intervals, mixing in between.

Mold
Grab the Oreo mold and place a spoonful of melted chocolate in the mold until evenly covered. Place the Oreo right in the middle. Lightly push the Oreo down and put more melting chocolate on top until evenly covered.

Repeat
Repeat step two until all the molds have chocolate-covered Oreos. Place the molds in the fridge until hardened. If using a silicone mold, peel the Oreo out. If using a plastic mold, flip the mold and lightly tap the mold until the Oreos fall out.

Decorate
For Leprechaun hats, add black fondant to the oreo with a bit of white frosting as “glue” and add gold sanding sugar to the top. Drizzle candy melts or icing over oreos and top with nonpaerils for confetti oreos. “Glue” candy shamrocks to the top of oreos with frosting. Decorate the Oreos however you’d like! Let the decorations chill and harden before serving.
Tips and Tricks to Dipped Oreos
Use a Mold. For perfect smooth Oreos, we recommend using this mold.
Use Melts. For the best results, we recommend using candy melts, instead of chocolate.
Chill. Let cool before handling. This is important to keep from imprinting with fingerprints.
Smooth. You can smooth over fingerprints by lightly buffing candy with clean fingertips.
Decoration is Key. Decorate dipped oreos after they have cooled and have been removed from dipping tray.

Irish Dipped Oreo FAQs
If using candy melts, your oreos can last in airtight plastic wrapping for up to two weeks. Store in a cool, dry place.
No, you can also just dip oreos using a skewer or dipping fork, and dunk them in candy, setting on wax paper to cool. We just like the smooth, clean lines from using a dipping tray.
You can use double stuff, mega stuff, or specialty flavor oreos – whatever you like!
