Cardamom and Juniper Gin and Tonic - a delicious easy gin and tonic with juniper and cardamom simple syrup for a perfect gin and tonic!

If you love the spicy, herbal notes in a gin and tonic you're going to love this delicious recipe that packs in tons of juniper and cardamom flavor for a gin and tonic you'll never forget!
This post was inspired by two goats - no, really!
My friend Kelly had two new babies to name, and I suggested "Juniper and Cardamom" after two of my favorite flavors in gin.... and of course, this led me to realize I of course needed to make a drink in honor of the new kids!
You can find more about Kelly's homegrown recipes, the goats, and my friend Kelly's current home-grown challenge where she's only eating things she grows at home or can barter to get for an entire year.
Check out one of our adorable namesakes for this drink:
And be sure to follow Kelly for more home grown fun and lots of goat shenanigans!
I hope you love this recipe as much as we do!

Juniper Cardamom Simple Syrup
To really pack a punch with the flavor, we're making a super-easy simple syrup to pack more of a flavorful punch.
Juniper and Cardamom Simple Syrup Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- ¼ cup whole cardamom
- ¼ cup juniper berries
- 2 cups white sugar
How To Make Juniper Cardamom Simple Syrup
- In a saucepot, combine water, cardamom, and juniper.
- Bring to a boil.
- Stir in sugar, until completely dissolved.
- Remove from heat but keep covered, and let simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Pour into jar with tight fitting lid and refrigerate for at least 24 hours for the most flavor.
What Gin To Use
For this gin and tonic, you want a more floral gin that doesn't have a ton of anise flavor.
We recommend Hendricks, Botanist, Tanqueray, Monkey 47, or Gunpowder Gin - but you can use a gin you love.
If you really love cardamom, you can make an over the top G&T with Bertha's Revenge Milk Gin. I once had an insanely cardamom-filled G&T at Muriel's in Belfast with Milk Gin that inspired this drink!
What Tonic to Use
For any gin and tonic, you want to use a tonic water that you love, since it is a main flavor component for your drink.
I personally like diet tonic to avoid the extra (and in my mind unnecessary) sugar in tonic - and opt for Fever Tree Naturally light, Schweppes diet tonic, or Q tonic.
If you want to try something a bit more flavorful, we love Fever Tree Indian Tonic.
While we love flavored tonics like Fever Tree's Elderflower tonic, an overly floral tonic would complicate the flavor of this drink and compete with the cardamom, so we advise a plain tonic for this cocktail.
