The Best Air Fryer Broccoli Recipe – we love broccoli in our house (it’s the only vegetable my kids ask for), and our air fryer is probably the appliance we use most. My kids love the air fryer because it’s easy to use and easy to clean – and it gives them crispy, crunchy food in about the same time as microwaving. This broccoli is simply seasoned, easy enough for kids to make, and one you will want to eat again and again.

If you’ve tried my air fryer chicken drumsticks or air fryer french fries, you already know the air fryer is basically the MVP of my kitchen – this broccoli is the next one you’ll want on rotation.

Don’t need the full story? There’s a jump-to-recipe button up top, and a quick table of contents below to help you skip around.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • It’s fast. Eighteen minutes start to finish, most of it hands-off.
  • It’s foolproof. No blanching, no boiling, no soggy broccoli – just toss and air fry.
  • It’s a genuine kid-pleaser. Crispy edges make all the difference for picky eaters.
  • It’s endlessly customizable. One seasoning blend today, a totally different flavor tomorrow (see the variations below).
  • It fits almost any diet. Naturally vegan, gluten-free, and keto-friendly, so it’s an easy side no matter who’s at the table.

I always add extra tips to my recipes, not because I’m trying to pad the page, but because I’m a self-taught home cook and I cook with a lot more confidence when I understand the why behind a recipe, not just the steps. My hope is that even if you’re brand new to the kitchen, you’ll feel a little more capable after making this.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Broccoli crowns (4 cups) – crowns air fry better than florets cut from a whole head, since they hold together and crisp up more evenly. Fresh works best here; frozen tends to release extra water and steam instead of crisp.
  • Avocado or olive oil (2 tbsp) – just enough to help the seasoning stick and the edges crisp. Avocado oil has a higher smoke point, so it’s my pick for the 450ยฐF cook temp, but olive oil works fine too.
  • Hungarian paprika (1 tsp) – brings color and a gentle, sweet warmth (not the same as smoked paprika, so don’t swap those).
  • Aleppo pepper (1 tsp) – milder and fruitier than crushed red pepper, with a little smokiness. If you can’t find it, a smaller pinch of crushed red pepper flakes is a fine substitute.
  • Onion powder (1 tsp) – rounds out the savory base.
  • Celtic sea salt (1 tsp), or another coarse salt – seasons the broccoli evenly without over-salting.
  • Fresh cracked pepper (1 tsp) – for a little bite.
  • Garlic nuggets (1 tbsp), or minced garlic – this is the flavor that really makes the dish. Garlic nuggets crisp up in the air fryer instead of burning the way minced fresh garlic sometimes can at high heat, but minced garlic works if that’s what you have on hand.

How to Make Air Fryer Broccoli

partially baked broccoli on parchment paper

Prep

Set your air fryer to 450ยฐF so it’s hot and ready the moment the broccoli goes in – this is what gives you that crispy edge instead of steamed broccoli. Cut broccoli from crown, wash and pat dry.

broccoli in a glass bowl

Season & Cook

Season. In a large bowl, toss the broccoli crowns with the oil and all the seasonings until every piece is evenly coated. Don’t rush this step – the more evenly it’s coated, the more consistent the flavor in every bite.

Load the basket. Add the broccoli to the air fryer basket in a single layer if you can. Crowding it will give you steamed spots instead of crispy ones.

Finish & Serve

Toss. Open the basket every 5 minutes and give everything a light toss so it browns evenly on all sides.

Check for doneness. It’s ready when the crowns are lightly browned and crispy and the stems are as tender as you like them – a little char on the edges is a good thing, not a mistake.

Serve immediately. Air fryer broccoli is best fresh out of the basket, while it’s still crispy.

Pro Tips for the Crispiest Broccoli

  • Don’t skip preheating – starting with a hot basket is the single biggest factor in getting crispy (not steamed) broccoli.
  • Give the pieces room to breathe. A crowded basket traps steam.
  • Cut your crowns roughly the same size so everything finishes cooking at the same time.
  • Pat the broccoli dry before tossing it in oil if it’s damp from rinsing – excess water is the enemy of crispy.

Seasoning Variations

Want to switch it up? A few of our other go-to seasoning blends work beautifully here too:

  • Trader Joe’s Everything But the Elote
  • Everything bagel seasoning
  • Garlic lemon seasoning
  • Adobo
  • A good blackening spice

What to Serve with Air Fryer Broccoli

This broccoli plays well with almost anything coming off the air fryer already – try it alongside air fryer salmon, air fryer chicken drumsticks, or air fryer steaks for a full meal with everything cooked the same easy way. It’s also a great low-carb, keto-friendly side if that’s what you’re after.

Storage & Reheating

Let leftovers cool, then store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 4 months. To reheat and bring the crisp back, pop it back in the air fryer at 400ยฐF for 2-3 minutes rather than the microwave, which will leave it soft.

Broccoli Air Fryer FAQs

How do I know when it’s done?

You’re looking for broccoli that’s browned and softened to your liking. Don’t be alarmed if the crowns char just slightly – that’s not burnt, that’s flavor. It adds a really nice earthy, roasted depth.

How long will leftovers keep?

Tucked into an airtight container, it’ll keep in the fridge for up to five days, or in the freezer for up to four months.

Can I use frozen broccoli instead?

You can, but expect a softer, less crispy result since frozen broccoli releases more water as it cooks. If that’s all you have, pat it as dry as possible first and expect a couple extra minutes in the air fryer.

Do I need to preheat the air fryer?

Yes – it makes a real difference in getting crispy edges instead of steamed broccoli.

By: Courtney O’Dell
Servings: 4 servings
Prep: 3 minutes
Cook: 15 minutes
Total: 18 minutes
Roasted broccoli with a keto-friendly fork.
Deliciously crispy, crunchy air fried broccoli – the side dish even picky eaters ask for seconds of.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer to 450 degrees/high.
  • In a large bowl, toss broccoli crowns in olive oil and seasonings.
  • Add broccoli to air fryer basket.
  • Set timer for 15 minutes and cook.
  • Open air fryer to lightly toss broccoli every 5 minutes.
  • When broccoli is lightly browned and crispy on the crowns, and stems are soft to your liking, it is done.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Use fresh broccoli crowns rather than florets cut from a full head – they crisp more evenly and hold their shape better in the air fryer.
If your air fryer basket is on the smaller side, cook in two batches rather than crowding the broccoli, or it’ll steam instead of crisp.
Leftovers reheat best back in the air fryer at 400ยฐF for 2-3 minutes – the microwave will leave them soft.
