Homemade Freezer Egg McMuffin Ingredients
To make this recipe, we will need:
- Egg: Eggs are the star of the show in these freezer egg muffins. They provide a protein-rich base and a creamy texture when cooked. The eggs hold the other ingredients together and add that classic breakfast sandwich element.
- Milk: Milk is often added to the beaten eggs before cooking. It adds moisture and helps create a light and fluffy texture in the scrambled eggs.
- Frozen Sausage Patties: Frozen sausage patties contribute a savory and meaty flavor to the sandwich. They provide the hearty, breakfast sausage element that pairs well with eggs and cheese.
- English Muffins: English muffins serve as the base of the sandwich. They provide a soft, slightly chewy texture with a hint of crispiness when toasted. English muffins are ideal for holding all the ingredients together.
- Sliced Cheddar Cheese: Sliced cheddar cheese adds a rich and creamy element to the sandwich. It provides a smooth, melted layer that pairs perfectly with the sausage and eggs. Cheddar cheese also adds a sharp and slightly tangy flavor to balance the richness of the other ingredients.
Steps to Make Egg McMuffin Sandwiches
Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, we will use the following process:

Prep
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a rimmed half sheet pan with nonstick spray.

Cook
Whisk the eggs, milk, salt, garlic salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl. Pour the mixture onto the sheet pan. Bake for 18-22 minutes until the eggs are set. Allow the eggs to cool.

Cut
Using a round cookie cutter approximately the same size as the English muffins, cut out 12 circles. Cut the English muffins in half and place them onto a sheet pan. Brush the muffin with the butter. Place them under the broiler for 1-3 minutes until golden brown.

Assemble
Place the egg rounds onto the bottoms of the English muffins. Top the egg with a slice of cheese and a slice of meat. Place the top of the muffin onto each sandwich.

Freeze
Wrap each sandwich in parchment paper and place them inside a large freezer-safe Ziploc bag, then transfer the sandwiches to the freezer.

Reheat
When you want to cook your frozen sandwich, microwave for 3 minutes until the sandwich is warmed.
Tips and Tricks for Perfect Freezer Egg Muffins
Use a Muffin Tin or Silicone Molds: If you’re making multiple sandwiches, consider using a muffin tin or silicone molds to shape the eggs. This ensures uniform size and shape for each sandwich.
Add Cheese as a Barrier: Place a slice of cheese between the egg and the bread. The cheese acts as a barrier, preventing the bread from getting too soggy when you reheat the sandwich.
Season Eggs Carefully: Season the eggs with salt and pepper to taste, but avoid over-seasoning, as the other ingredients may also contain salt. Taste and adjust as needed.
Cool Ingredients Before Assembling: Allow the cooked components (eggs, meat, etc.) to cool slightly before assembling the sandwiches. This helps reduce condensation inside the storage container.
Wrap Individually: Wrap each assembled sandwich individually in plastic wrap or aluminum foil before freezing. This prevents them from sticking together and makes it easy to grab one when needed.
Use a Freezer-Friendly Container: Store the wrapped sandwiches in an airtight container or freezer bag. This extra layer of protection helps prevent freezer burn.
Reheat Gradually: When reheating, do so gradually in the microwave, using shorter intervals and checking the center to avoid overheating and maintaining a tender texture.
Thaw in Advance: If possible, transfer a sandwich from the freezer to the refrigerator the night before you plan to eat it. This allows for a more even reheating process.
Add Fresh Ingredients: Consider adding fresh ingredients after reheating, such as lettuce, tomato, or avocado, to give the sandwich a crisp and refreshing contrast.
Serve with Condiments: Offer condiments like ketchup, hot sauce, or mayonnaise on the side when serving to customize the flavors to your liking.
