How to Make Tropical Green Smoothies
First assemble the following ingredients:
- Frozen banana (1) – A frozen banana adds natural sweetness and creaminess to the smoothie.
- Frozen pineapple (2 cups) – Pineapple brings a tropical tang and refreshing brightness.
- Fresh baby spinach (2 cups) – Spinach blends smoothly while boosting vitamins and minerals without overpowering flavor.
- Spirulina powder (1 teaspoon) – Spirulina provides a nutrient-dense superfood punch with antioxidants and protein.
- Almond milk (½ cup) – Almond milk creates a light, dairy-free base that blends all the ingredients together.
- Plain Greek yogurt (5 ounces) – Greek yogurt adds thickness, creaminess, and gut-friendly probiotics.
- Collagen or protein powder (2 scoops) – Protein powder supports satiety and muscle health.
- Coconut oil (1 tablespoon) – Coconut oil adds healthy fats that promote energy and smooth texture.
- Honey or agave (2 tablespoons) – A drizzle of honey or agave enhances natural sweetness.
- Avocado (½) – Avocado adds creaminess and heart-healthy fats for a silky finish.
Use this Method:
Prep Ingredients
Prep the pineapple (cut off the rind and core) and rinse the spinach so it is ready to blend.
Blend Till Smooth
Add all the ingredients to a blender (I like the ninja blender) and blend until smooth. You may need to stop the blender and scrape down the sides once or twice. Taste and adjust as necessary.
Tips To Perfect Green Smoothies
Try frozen avocado – If you’re having trouble finding affordable in-season avocados, you can use frozen avocado to toss into your smoothies – it blends like a dream, and tastes great!
Try different fruits – We make this smoothie with all different (mostly frozen) fruits including Mango, Peaches, Star Fruit, Kiwi Fruit, Strawberries, and Guava.
Give it an extra boost – If you’d like to add more greens for even better nutrition, try adding Wheat grass, Chard, Kale, or Celery.
Layer ingredients smartly – Add liquids first (almond milk, yogurt) to help the blender blades move smoothly.
Balance sweetness naturally – Taste before adding honey or agave; the fruit may already provide enough sweetness.
Boost the greens gently – Baby spinach blends more smoothly and tastes milder than kale, making it a great choice.
Add superfoods in small amounts – Start with ½ teaspoon spirulina and work up if you’re new to its earthy flavor.
Blend in stages – Blend greens and liquid first, then add fruit and powders for the smoothest texture.
Adjust consistency – Add more almond milk for a thinner smoothie or a few extra frozen pineapple chunks for a thicker one.
FAQs
You can store smoothies in the refrigerator in a jar or with a pitcher with a lid for up to two days. Blend with more ice or frozen fruit when serving again to thicken.
Yes, but fresh fruit won’t make the smoothie as thick or cold—add a handful of ice cubes or freeze your fruit ahead of time for the best texture.
Spinach is the mildest and blends smoothly, but you can swap in kale, Swiss chard, or even romaine for variety—just note that stronger greens may have a bolder flavor.
No, it’s optional. Spirulina adds a nutrient boost, but the smoothie is still delicious and healthy without it.
Swap Greek yogurt for a plant-based yogurt and choose a vegan protein powder or collagen alternative.
Absolutely! Reduce the liquid for a thicker base, then top with granola, coconut flakes, chia seeds, or fresh fruit.
