How to MAke Fruit and Donut Kabobs

These kabobs are super simple, easy to make (get your kids involved – it is so fun to assemble with kids!) and make a great display for picnics, parties, and cookouts. We hope you love this recipe as much as we do!

4th of July Kebob Ingredients

For these kabobs, we’re using the following ingredients:

  • Strawberries – strawberries give a big, bright, vibrant red hue to our kabobs, are sweet and a favorite for most kids!
  • Blueberries – blueberries give a small bright blue hue with a tart and sweet flavor.
  • Donut holes – powdered sugar or glazed donut holes give a lovely white hue to alternate with fruit and are easy to slide onto skewers.
  • Bananas – bananas are a great low sugar alternate to donut holes that perfectly fit the red, white, and blue theme and are kid-friendly favorites!

Steps to Make Donut and Fruit Kabobs

Once you have assembled the ingredients, use this method:

A variety of fruit on a white surface, perfect for an Easy 4th of July dessert.

Prep Ingredients

Slice your bananas and trim the tops of the strawberries to prep the fruit.

Assemble

Using a long, thin skewer with a sharp point, add fruit and donut holes in alternating red, white, and blue patterns.

Tips and Tricks to Perfect Donut Kabobs

Use different fruits. Add more flavor by mixing in other red, white, and blue fruits like blackberries, grapes, apple slices, pears, or anything else you find in the right hue!

Go super healthy. To nix the sugar from donut holes, you can use bananas, dragonfruit, apples, or pineapple pieces (we like to cut them into stars) to alternate color.

Dry fruit before adding to skewers. If you leave fruit wet after rinsing, it will make the donut holes soggy – pat them dry with a paper towel to help prevent the donut holes from getting wet and soggy from the fruit.

Other Red, White, and Blue Recipes You’ll Love

We love to serve these kabobs at parties with our red, white, and blue patriotic punch; some fun red white and blue white chocolate dipped strawberries, some fun and fresh fruit salsa, or a Texas Sheetcake with patriotic sprinkles!

Can I assemble the night before? Will the donut holes get dry in the refrigerator?

    1. Katherine says:

You can assemble the night before but leave a little space between the donut holes and fruit so the fruit doesnt make the donut holes wet as it sits.
