At Sweet C’s, I add lots of tips in all of my recipes – because I am a home cook without any formal training, and I find I am more confident making dishes when I understand why it works, and what each ingredient means to the flavor of a recipe. My goal is for even the most beginner home cook to feel empowered in the kitchen.
Delicious Baked Chicken Wings
I love chicken wings. They are one of my absolute favorite indulgences – they are crunchy, full of flavor, great for parties – and perfect for football gameday!
Wings are the best things to eat at any party – and while its daunting to make them at home, these wings are crazy easy and simple – they don’t take a long time to prepare, and are no-fuss!
These are perfect – so you can get back to prepping your party in no time!
Just pop them in the oven and coat when done – and let your guests think you slaved away for hours over hot oil!
The only problem with wings is deep frying them – not only is it way more calories – but it is kind of a pain in the butt!
These wings are crispy, crunchy, and taste just like they are fried – but with no oil! They are crunchy and delicious, right out of the oven.
How to Make Baked Spicy and Sweet Chicken Wings
First assemble the following ingredients:
- Chicken wings (1ย lb) – Juicy and tender, these wings form the perfect base for absorbing bold, spicy-sweet flavors.
- Sweet chili paste (2ย tbsp) – Adds a punch of heat balanced with sticky, caramelized sweetness.
- Garlic powder (1ย tbsp) – Infuses the wings with a deep, savory warmth that complements the chili’s kick.
- Soy sauce (ยฝย cup) – Brings a rich umami depth and saltiness that ties all the flavors together.
Use this Method:
Prep. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. On a baking sheet with a cookie cooling rack over it, arrange wings so they aren’t directly touching.
Pre-Bake. Bake for 45 minutes, and flip. Bake another 45 minutes, until chicken is crunchy and cooked. If wings are not yet crunchy on the outside, add another 15-20 minutes. Remove from oven.
Baste and Finish. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, chili paste, and garlic powder. Baste onto chicken wings. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if desired.
What to Serve with Baked Wings
Sweet and spicy baked chicken wings pair well with a variety of accompaniments, including:
Starchy Sides: Potato salad, coleslaw, fries, or roasted potatoes can complement the wings.
Pickled Vegetables: Pickles or kimchi provide a tangy contrast.
Salads: Simple green salads with a vinaigrette dressing or a refreshing cucumber salad.
Breads: Cornbread, dinner rolls, or garlic bread.
You can mix and match these suggestions based on personal preferences and the exact flavor profile of your wings.
