Easy BAked BBQ Wings

There is nothing more delicious crunchy baked BBQ chicken wings – and when they are super easy to make, they are even better!

These easy baked chicken wings are similar to my highly rated Crunchy Baked BBQ Drumsticks – and taste just as good!

To get perfect crispy wings from the oven that taste like they were fried, it takes a little bit of setup and good timing – but even beginner cooks can easily master these wings!

-Use a wire rack. Giving your wings a wire rack to set on over a baking sheet helps improve air circulation around the wing, letting it cook faster, and allowing the fat to drip down and not make the wing soggy.

-Preheat oven completely. Wings like to be cooked in high heat – start your recipe off right with a preheated oven for best crispy results.

Tips and Tricks for BBQ Wings Crispy in the Oven

Pat Wings Dry โ€“ Before seasoning, pat your wings dry with paper towels to help them crisp up in the oven.

Use Baking Powder โ€“ Toss the wings in a small amount of baking powder (not baking soda) to help the skin get extra crispy without frying.

Line the Baking Sheet โ€“ Use parchment paper or foil to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.

Elevate the Wings โ€“ Use a wire rack on top of the baking sheet to allow air to circulate around the wings, helping them crisp up evenly.

Bake at a High Temperature โ€“ Bake the wings at 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) to 425ยฐF (220ยฐC) for about 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway for even cooking.

Pre-Sauce Baking โ€“ Bake the wings without sauce first, then add BBQ sauce toward the end to avoid burning the sugars in the sauce.

Toss in Sauce After Baking โ€“ For the best BBQ flavor, toss the wings in warm BBQ sauce after they come out of the oven.

Broil for Extra Crispiness โ€“ After tossing in sauce, place the wings under the broiler for 2-3 minutes to caramelize the sauce and get a crispy finish.

Double Sauce โ€“ For extra saucy wings, bake them with a light coating of BBQ sauce, then toss them again in fresh sauce before serving.

Rest Before Serving โ€“ Let the wings rest for a few minutes after baking to allow the sauce to set and enhance the flavor.

Keto BBQ Sauces I Love

To ensure your wings are really keto, its imperative to be sure you use a keto BBQ sauce!

Some bar-b-que sauce is notoriously loaded with sugar – so it’s important to know you’re using something low carb. Im rounding up some of my favorites below:

FAQs

How do I make sure my wings get crispy in the oven?

Pat the wings dry before seasoning and bake at a high temperature (400ยฐF to 425ยฐF). Use baking powder on the wings and bake them on a wire rack to ensure even airflow around the wings.

Should I marinate the wings before baking?

While marinating can add flavor, it’s not necessary for baked BBQ wings. You can season them with dry rubs before baking, and the BBQ sauce will provide plenty of flavor.

Do I need to flip the wings while baking?

Yes, flipping the wings halfway through baking ensures even cooking and crisping on both sides.

Why are my wings not crispy enough?

If the wings aren’t crispy, check that they were dried properly before baking and that you baked them on a wire rack. Also, avoid overcrowding the pan, which can trap moisture.

Can I use frozen wings?

Yes, but thaw the wings completely and pat them dry before baking to ensure they crisp up properly.

How do I make the wings less messy when eating?

Toss the wings in a moderate amount of sauce and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. The sauce will set slightly, making the wings less sticky.

Can I make the wings ahead of time?

Yes, bake the wings without sauce, store them in the fridge, and then reheat and toss in sauce just before serving.

How do I prevent the sauce from burning?

Avoid baking the wings with sauce from the start. Add BBQ sauce during the last few minutes of baking, or toss the wings in sauce after they finish cooking, then briefly broil if desired.
