Delicious Beef and Broccoli
Keto beef and broccoli is a simple, yet delicious dish that perfectly fits into a low-carb, ketogenic lifestyle. It’s an adaptation of the classic Chinese beef and broccoli recipe, tailored to meet keto dietary needs without compromising on flavor. The key to this dish lies in its minimalistic approach, using a handful of ingredients to create a harmonious blend of taste and texture. Typically, it involves stir-frying thin slices of beef alongside fresh broccoli in a savory sauce. The sauce, a crucial component, is made keto-friendly by using ingredients like soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and a sugar substitute like erythritol or stevia, ensuring it’s low in carbs but rich in taste. The beef is often marinated beforehand in a mixture of the sauce ingredients, enhancing its flavor and tenderness, while the broccoli is cooked just enough to maintain its crispness, adding a pleasant contrast in texture.
This dish is not only appealing for its taste but also for its ease and quickness of preparation, making it a perfect choice for busy weeknights or for those new to a keto diet. Preparing keto beef and broccoli usually takes no more than 30 minutes, from start to finish. It begins with marinating the beef, then stir-frying it in a hot skillet or wok until it’s browned and cooked through. The broccoli is then added, along with the remaining sauce, and everything is cooked together until the broccoli reaches the desired level of tenderness. This one-pan dish minimizes cleanup and maximizes efficiency. Additionally, it’s highly customizable โ one can adjust the amount of garlic or ginger to taste, add a kick with red pepper flakes, or even include other keto-friendly vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms. Its versatility and delicious taste make keto beef and broccoli a go-to meal for anyone following a ketogenic diet, offering a satisfying and nutritious meal that doesn’t feel like a dietary compromise.
How To Store Keto Beef and Broccoli
To store this keto beef and broccoli, place in a plastic bag or airtight container (I love these glass dishes with snap-on lids) and refrigerate for up to four days.
Do not save leftovers that have been re-heated once.
How To Freeze Keto Beef and Broccoli
To freeze this recipe, I prefer to use a plastic bag.
Put the beef and broccoli in a plastic bag, and lay flat in the freezer – so it doesn’t freeze in a clump – so it can freeze faster and more evenly – and makes even defrosting easier.
After the meat is frozen, you don’t need it to lay flat.
To thaw, place in the refrigerator overnight to thaw naturally.
How to Reheat Keto Beef and Broccoli
To reheat this beef and broccoli, I reccomend pan frying in a nonstick skillet (I use these green pans and love them) with 1 tbsp olive oil until hot.
You can also microwave this dish to take to work for an easy keto lunch – simply microwave on high in 30 second bursts, stirring in between, to cook until piping hot.
Easy Keto Beef and Broccoli Sauce
Since soy sauce, teriyaki, and other Asian inspired simmer sauces are not compatible with a keto diet, we’re making a delicious and easy sauce for this beef and broccoli.
Some recipes use gelatin to thicken the sauce – but I prefer mine quick and easy, without the additional steps, and I think you will agree!
The base of our sauce starts with coconut aminos – a soy-sauce like sauce that is made from coconuts – so it is low carb, and keto compliant.
