Ingredients You’ll NeeD For Peach Margaritas

  • Tequila โ€“ the backbone of the cocktail; a smooth blanco or silver tequila works best with peach flavor.
  • Cointreau โ€“ an orange liqueur that adds depth and balances the sweetness of the peach syrup.
  • Lime juice โ€“ fresh lime juice brightens the drink and cuts through the sweetness.
  • Peach simple syrup โ€“ the star of the show; gives this margarita its fresh, natural peach flavor.
  • Salt or sugar โ€“ for coating the rim of the glass.
  • Peach and lime slices โ€“ for garnish and a pop of color.

Full ingredient amounts are in the recipe card below.

How to Make Peach Margaritas

  1. Shake it up. Add ice, tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and peach simple syrup to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds, until well chilled.
  2. Prep the glass. Dip the rim of a margarita glass in simple syrup, or run a lime wedge around the rim and dip it in salt or sugar.
  3. Fill with ice. Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice.
  4. Strain and garnish. Strain the cocktail shaker into the glass and garnish with a peach slice and lime slice.

Pro Tip: Chill your margarita glass in the freezer for 10โ€“15 minutes before serving โ€” it keeps the drink colder longer and gives you that frosted-glass look without diluting the cocktail with extra ice.

How to Make a Pitcher of Peach Margaritas for a Crowd

This recipe is written for one cocktail, but it multiplies perfectly for parties:

  • Small group (4 servings): Multiply every ingredient by 4 โ€” about 6 oz tequila, 4 oz Cointreau, 4 oz lime juice, and 4 oz peach simple syrup. Stir well in a pitcher with ice just before serving.
  • Party-size batch (8โ€“10 servings): Multiply by 8โ€“10 and mix in a large pitcher or drink dispenser. Make the tequila/Cointreau/lime juice/peach syrup mixture ahead and store it in the fridge, then add ice right before serving so it doesn’t get watered down.
  • Garnish station: For a crowd, set out a bowl of peach slices, lime slices, and a small dish of salt or sugar so guests can rim and garnish their own glasses.

My Pro Tip

Stir, Dont Shake

Stir, don’t shake, when making a big batch in a pitcher โ€” shaking a large volume doesn’t chill it any better and makes it harder to control dilution. Keep a separate bowl of ice nearby for topping off glasses.

Frozen Peach Margaritas

To make this frozen, add all of the ingredients to a blender with ice. For the best flavor, toss in a fresh or frozen peach as well โ€” this keeps the peach flavor from getting diluted by the ice. You can add more simple syrup for a sweeter drink, but keep in mind it will also make the margarita sweeter overall, so taste as you go.

What Peach Syrup to Use

For these peach margaritas, we’re using our peach simple syrup recipe. A simple syrup made from real peaches gives a natural, light, fresh flavor instead of an overly sweet, artificial peach taste.

If you don’t have time to make the simple syrup (it only takes about 30 minutes), Torani peach syrup is a solid substitute.

What Tequila to Use

Pick a mid-range blanco or silver tequila with a flavor you enjoy – something that isn’t too smoky or rich.

Reposado tequilas can give a slightly funky flavor when paired with fresh peaches, so silver or blanco is the way to go.

We also don’t recommend a flavored tequila here – using a neutral tequila lets the peach simple syrup do the work, so you get a fresh peach flavor instead of an overly syrupy one.

Recipe Variations

  • Spicy peach margarita: Add a slice of jalapeรฑo to the shaker, or rim the glass with a chili-salt blend for a sweet-and-spicy kick.
  • Peach margarita Topo Chico: Build the margarita as written, then top with sparkling mineral water (like our Strawberry Margarita Topo Chico) for a lighter, fizzier drink.
  • Skinny peach margarita: Swap the simple syrup for a splash of agave nectar and fresh peach puree to cut down on added sugar.
  • Mango-peach margarita: Add a splash of mango puree or nectar along with the peach simple syrup for a tropical twist.
  • Sparkling peach margarita: Top the finished cocktail with a splash of prosecco or champagne for a celebratory version.

Tips for the Best Peach Margaritas

  • Use fresh lime juice. Bottled lime juice works in a pinch, but fresh juice makes a noticeably brighter cocktail.
  • Don’t skip the rim. Salt or sugar on the rim adds a flavor contrast that makes every sip more interesting.
  • Taste as you go when batching. Peach syrups vary in sweetness, so taste a small glass before committing a full pitcher.
  • Garnish generously. A peach slice and lime slice aren’t just decoration โ€” they add aroma with every sip.
  • Keep ice separate when making ahead. Mix the liquid ingredients ahead of time, but add ice only right before serving so the drink doesn’t get watered down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use Peach simple syrup or peach syrup in a margarita?

Either works. Homemade peach simple syrup gives a fresher, more natural peach flavor, while Torani peach syrup is a convenient substitute if you’re short on time.

Can I make make peach margaritas frozen instead of shaken?

Yes – add all of the ingredients to a blender with ice. Adding a fresh or frozen peach helps keep the peach flavor from getting diluted by the ice.

Whats the best tequila for a peach margarita?

A mid-range blanco or silver tequila works best. Avoid reposado (it can taste slightly funky with peach) and avoid flavored tequilas, which compete with the peach simple syrup.

Can I make a pitcher of peach margaritas ahead of time?

Yes – mix the tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and peach simple syrup ahead of time and refrigerate. Add ice just before serving so the drinks don’t get watered down.

How many servings does this recipe make?

As written, it makes one cocktail, but it multiplies easily – see “How to Make a Pitcher of Peach Margaritas for a Crowd” above for party-sized batches.

Is there a non alcoholic version of this drink?

Yes – skip the tequila and Cointreau, and combine the peach simple syrup, lime juice, and a splash of soda water or sparkling lemonade for a peach “mocktail.”

Make-Ahead and Storage

  • Peach simple syrup can be made up to 2 weeks ahead and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Pitcher batches of the tequila/Cointreau/lime juice/peach syrup mixture can be mixed up to a day ahead and refrigerated โ€” just add ice right before serving.
  • Leftover margaritas (without ice) can be stored covered in the fridge for up to 1โ€“2 days; re-stir or re-shake before serving since the ingredients may separate.
