How to Make Fruit Salad with Honey Lime Dressing
First assemble the following ingredients:
- Strawberries (1 lb.) – Bursting with sweet, juicy flavor, strawberries add a vibrant red hue and a refreshing taste to any fruit salad.
- Pineapple (1 lb.) – With its tropical sweetness and slight tang, pineapple chunks bring a delightful zest and juiciness to the mix.
- Mandarin oranges (1 can) – Easy to peel and segment, mandarin oranges offer a burst of citrusy sweetness that’s perfect for a refreshing fruit salad.
- Kiwis (4) – Soft and tangy, kiwis contribute a bright green color and a unique, tart flavor that complements other fruits.
- Blueberries (12 ounces) – These tiny, antioxidant-rich berries provide a pop of color and a burst of sweet-tart flavor in every bite.
- Limes (3) – A squeeze of fresh lime juice adds a zesty kick and enhances the natural flavors of the fruit salad ingredients.
- Honey (3 tsp) – Drizzling honey over the fruit salad gives it a touch of natural sweetness and a subtle floral note.
- Poppy seeds (½ tsp) – Sprinkling poppy seeds on top adds a slight crunch and a bit of a different contrast in flavor and color.
Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, we will use this method:
- Make the dressing. Whisk your lime juice, honey and poppy seeds together in a small bowl then set it aside.
- Assemble the salad. Add your chopped strawberries, pineapple, mandarin oranges, kiwi and blueberries to a large bowl.
- If serving immediately. Pour your desired amount of dressing over the top and toss until the salad is fully coated.
- If waiting to serve. Cover the bowl and let your fruit chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. When you’re ready to serve, toss the salad in your dressing and serve immediately.
Tips and Tricks for Perfect Fruit Salad
Choose Ripe Fruits: Select a variety of ripe, seasonal fruits for the best flavor and texture.
Variety of Colors and Textures: Use a mix of different colored fruits and textures to make the salad visually appealing and interesting.
Cut Evenly: Cut the fruits into similar-sized pieces for a consistent eating experience and attractive presentation.
Citrus Juice: Toss the fruit with fresh lemon or lime juice to prevent browning and enhance the flavors.
Fresh Herbs: Add fresh herbs like mint or basil for an aromatic and refreshing touch.
Balance Flavors: Include a mix of sweet, tart, and juicy fruits to create a balanced flavor profile.
Chill Before Serving: Refrigerate the salad for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld and to serve it chilled.
Avoid Overmixing: Gently toss the fruit to avoid bruising and keep the pieces intact.
Nuts and Seeds: Sprinkle toasted nuts or seeds like almonds, walnuts, or chia seeds for added crunch and nutrition.
Coconut Flakes: Add unsweetened or lightly toasted coconut flakes for a tropical twist.
Serve Fresh: Fruit salad is best enjoyed fresh, so try to consume it the same day it is prepared.
Layering: If preparing in advance, layer the harder fruits at the bottom and softer fruits on top to prevent them from getting mushy.
Garnish: Use edible flowers or a sprinkle of powdered sugar for an elegant presentation.
