I want each reader to walk away with a solid knowledge of each recipe, with all of the tips I’ve gathered from extensive testing of each recipe. I also answer questions my friends and family have asked about my recipes, to help everyone better understand the processes we use – and why!

How To Make Christmas Tree Brownies
These brownies are a snap to make, just follow our step by step instructions below!
Make Brownies
Make brownies according to package directions. Some will require a cup of oil and two eggs, some will require slightly different amounts.
- Preheat the oven to the temperature recommended on the box of brownies mix.
- Prepare a 9X9 baking pan (preferably a light metal pan) by lining it with parchment paper.ย You want to leave extra parchment paper over the edges so that you may easily remove the whole pan of brownies later.ย
- Use a whisk to stir together the ingredients recommended on the box of brownies and 1 egg yolk. (If this is too challenging, then use a spatula). We donโt want to over-mix, so mix just until the flour disappears.
- Bake the brownies on the middle rack in your oven.
- Check the brownies a few minutes before the minimum time recommended on the box.ย You do not want to over bake them.ย Insert a toothpick to test doneness.ย There should be some streaks of batter on the toothpick. If they are not at this point yet, give them just a few more minutes at a time.
- Leave the brownies in the pan and place it on a cooling rack.ย After a few minutes, move the pan into the fridge.ย
- While the brownies are cooling, mix together the white frosting and green food coloring.
- Remove the brownies from the pan.ย Trim off outer edges.
Cool & Cut Brownies
- Do not cut the brownies unless they are completely cooled – if they are not – return them to the fridge and wait until they are completely cooled.ย
- There are 2 different ways to cut these depending on how large you want the trees to be.
- If you want small trees, you can get 18.
- Cut the brownies into 3 long strips.
- Then cut the strips into triangles – this will make 3 rows with 6 triangles each. (Cut 3 equal squares from each strip, then cut the squares in half on the diagonal.)ย They will be small trees.
- If you want large trees, you can get 8.
- Cut the brownies in half down the middle.
- You will be able to cut 4 equal size triangles from each half. (It is like a zig-zag pattern.) It will only work if you trim a little off of each end, at an angle.
Decorate Brownies
- Decorate with green icing and sprinkles.
- Stick a cut candy cane in the bottom of the triangle to be the stem of your Christmas tree.
Tips to Perfect Christmas Tree Brownies
You will need the following ingredients to complete this recipe:
- Boxed brownie mix and ingredients recommended
- Egg yolk
- Green buttercream frosting
- Sprinkles
- Candy canes
Supplies:
- 9X9 baking pan
- Whisk
- Spatula
- Parchment paper
- Iโm finding the brownies hard to cut neatly – any advice? Yes, you want to make sure that the brownies are very well cooled. You may even want to put them in the freezer for a bit, depending on the denseness of your brownies.
- I donโt have parchment paper – can I just spray the baking pan? For this recipe it is really important that the whole pan of brownies removes well. If you donโt have parchment paper, you could use tin foil.
- Could I use a glass baking dish? I recommend a light metal dish for these brownies because that will produce chewier brownies, but Iโm sure it will be fine to use a glass baking dish.
FAQs
Make sure that your eggs are at room temperature. And if you have a recipe that calls for butter, that should be room temperature as well. Only stir the batter the bare minimum. And donโt over bake!
To keep these brownies as dense as possible we really donโt want to over-mix the batter. So, it is better to mix the batter by hand using a whisk and then a spatula if needed, just until the flour disappears.
