Tips to Perfect Easy Sprinkle Cookies

Choose Your Sprinkles Wisely: Use jimmies or nonpareils for a pop of color that won’t bleed into your dough. Avoid using colored sugar as it can melt and affect the texture.

Chill the Dough: Refrigerate your cookie dough for at least an hour before shaping and baking to prevent the cookies from spreading too much in the oven.

Roll in Sprinkles Before Baking: For an even coat, roll your cookie dough balls in sprinkles before placing them on the baking sheet. This ensures a vibrant and uniform sprinkle coverage.

Use Parchment Paper: Line your baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.

Room Temperature Ingredients: Make sure your butter and eggs are at room temperature before you start. This ensures a smoother dough and more uniform cookies.

Don’t Overmix: Mix the dough just until the ingredients are combined to keep the cookies tender.

Even Sizes for Even Baking: Use a cookie scoop to ensure all your cookies are the same size. This helps them bake evenly and finish at the same time.

Keep an Eye on the Oven: Oven temperatures can vary, so start checking your cookies a few minutes before the recipe suggests. They should be just lightly golden around the edges when done.

Let Them Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. This helps them set and makes them easier to move without breaking.

Customize Your Colors: Tailor your sprinkle colors to match the theme of any event, holiday, or personal preference for a customized touch.

Flavor Variations: Experiment with adding flavors like vanilla extract, almond extract, or citrus zest to your dough for an extra flavor dimension.

Storage: Store your sprinkle cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh and prevent them from becoming stale.

FAQs

Can I use a different type of extract flavor?

These are such simple cookies; any extract would work wonderfully in these. If you’re looking for the classic flavor, you can stick with it a vanilla extract. Other fun flavors you can try are peppermint extract, coffee extract, lemon extract, orange extract.

Why add cornstarch to sprinkle cookies?

Cornstarch helps keep the cookies a little on the chewer side.

Do you need to add sprinkle to the bottom of sprinkle cookies?

Since they’re not going to see the bottom of the cookies, you don’t have to. I like to make sure all sides are covered so that way you really get that sprinkle flavor.

How do you keep cookies from going stale?

The first step is to make sure you’re storing them in an airtight container. You can take half a slice of bread and stick it in the container; the cookies will take some moisture from the slice of bread.

How long do sprinkle cookies last?

Sprinkle cookies are good for 3 to 5 days for optimal freshness.

Can I freeze sprinkle cookies?

You can make the dough ahead of time. After mixing the dough, you can wrap it in some plastic wrap and place it in a freezer-safe bag. When you want to make the cookies allow the dough to thaw out. Then prepare it following the rest of the directions.
