Berry Pineapple Salsa

I love fresh, fruity salsas – they give a fun twist to traditional spicy salsas and dips, are delicious on chicken, beef, pork, and fish – and are great for tacos, salads, wraps, or just to dip with chips!

This salsa is perfect for end-of-summer parties and cookouts, or to use up the bounty of berries from your summer garden!

We hope you love this recipe as much as we do.

How to Make Pineapple Strawberry Salsa

To make this recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Whole pineapple – we will be using a whole pineapple for this recipe, and cutting out the pineapple from the middle, but preserving the hull to use as a serving bowl for salsa.
  • Strawberries – fresh summer strawberries that are ripe and juicy should be used for this recipe, so their sweet sugary flavor can balance out the onion and cilantro.
  • Red Bell Pepper – red bell pepper has an earthy vegetal flavor, but is sweet, and combines well with fruits for salsa!
  • Jalapeno – jalapeno, finely diced, helps to kick up the heat of this recipe and give it a bit of heat!
  • Red onion – red onion is less pungent than white onion, a bit sweet, and a bit hot – with a crisp flavor that balances the sugary sweetness of the fruit.
  • Cilantro – cilantro has a fresh, peppery flavor some people love – and some people dont! If you’re not a fan of cilantro, sub green onions or parsley.
  • Lime juice – lime juice is sweet, tart, and bright, to balance the sweet berry and pineapple flavor and tie together the spicy onion and jalapeno.
  • Tortilla chips of your choice
  1. To make the bowl, cut about ? of the pineapple off. Leaving the stem intact on the larger section of the pineapple. Cut out the middle creating a bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, add all the ingredients except the lime juice. Drizzle lime juice over the mixture. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Place the salsa in the pineapple bowl.
  4. Chill and serve with tortilla chips!

Tips and Tricks to Make Pineapple Strawberry Salsa & FAQs

Chill before serving. Chilling your salsa gives time for the flavors to come together and incorporate better. This isn’t strictly mandatory, but does help the flavor be even better!

Add some spice. We love to sprinkle tajin over this salsa for a slightly spicy, tangy twist.

Serve in the pineapple. This isn’t mandatory, but we love to serve this salsa in the pineapple we’re cutting up – it’s an adorable way to serve guests for a party!

FAQs

How long can I keep this salsa?

Fruit salsa can be kept up to four days in the refrigerator, but it can get mushy and start to look less than fresh after a few days – so it is best to eat within 1-2 days after making.

How do I store this recipe?

Leftover, or pre-prepped salsa can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Can I make this salsa spicy?

Add diced jalapeños, some chili and lime powder, or cayenne powder to increase the heat of this salsa.

Do I have to use cilantro?

If you don’t like the flavor of cilantro, and still want an earthy, vegetal kick, you can add chopped green onions, parsley, or oregano instead.
