At Sweet C’s, I add lots of tips in all of my recipes – because I am a home cook without any formal training, and I find I am more confident making dishes when I understand why it works, and what each ingredient means to the flavor of a recipe. My goal is for even the most beginner home cook to feel empowered in the kitchen.

How to Make FlatBread Naan Bread

This keto baked flatbread is so easy to make – simply melt the cheeses (either in the microwave or a double boiler), and combine with the eggs, almond flour, and baking powder, and knead! As your naan bakes in the oven, you’ll make a delicious garlic butter sauce to brush over the naan for a rich, buttery flavor you can’t get enough of!

Gluten-Free Naan ingredients

To Make this Keto Naan Bread, You’ll Need:

For the Naan:

  • Mozzarella (3 cups) – Mozzarella cheese creates the soft, stretchy, chewy texture that gives keto naan its classic bread-like bite without the carbs.
  • Full-fat Greek yogurt (2 tbsp) – Creamy Greek yogurt adds tangy flavor and moisture while helping keep the naan tender and flexible.
  • Eggs (2 large) – Eggs bind the dough together and help the keto naan stay fluffy, soft, and easy to shape.
  • Blanched almond flour (1 1/2 cups) – Fine blanched almond flour provides a light, low-carb base that mimics the texture of traditional flatbread.
  • Gluten-free baking powder (1 tbsp) – Baking powder helps the naan puff slightly while cooking, creating a softer, more airy texture.

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

  • Butter (2 tbsp) – Melted butter adds rich flavor and gives the naan a glossy, restaurant-style finish.
  • Garlic powder (1/2 tsp) – Garlic powder infuses the buttery topping with savory garlic flavor for classic garlic naan taste.
  • Fresh parsley (1 tbsp) – Fresh parsley adds bright color and a fresh herbal finish that balances the richness of the naan.

Steps to Make Low Carb Naan

Once you have assembled the ingredients, use this method:

Prep. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix. In a large bowl, microwave mozzarella and sour cream, mixing every 30 seconds, until soft and shiny. (Mozzarella and sour cream can also be heated in a double boiler.) Add eggs, flour, and baking powder to melted cheese dough and mix well until combined.

Knead until not sticky. add a little almond flour at a time if it is too sticky to knead.

Roll. Split into 6 balls. Roll out balls into flatbread shape using a rolling pin. Lay rolled out dough on lined baking sheet, giving a bit of room for spreading.

Bake. Bake 20 minutes or until lightly browned.

Top. Melt butter in pot and mix in parsley and garlic powder. Brush garlic butter over naan and return to oven for 5-7 minutes, until golden brown.

Tips and Tricks for Making Keto Naan

Prep Hands. Wet your hands lightly with water or oil before shaping the dough to prevent sticking and make flattening easier.

Roll. Roll the dough evenly so the naan cooks at the same speed and develops golden brown spots throughout. Don’t make the naan too thin or it can become crispy instead of soft and chewy like traditional naan bread.

Non Stick. Use parchment paper when rolling out the dough to make transferring the naan easier without tearing.

Add Herbs. Add chopped cilantro, parsley, or Italian herbs to the dough for extra flavor and color.

Let it Rest. If the dough feels too sticky, let it rest for a few minutes so the cheese firms up slightly before shaping. Almond flour works best for a soft, flexible keto naan texture while staying low carb.

Reheat. Reheat naan in a skillet instead of the microwave to keep it soft while refreshing the crispy edges.

Season. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt immediately after cooking for extra flavor and a more authentic flatbread finish.

Make Minis. Make smaller naan rounds for keto sandwiches or mini personal pizzas.

Store Properly. Store cooked naan with parchment paper between pieces to keep them from sticking together in the refrigerator or freezer.

Low Carb Naan FAQs

Is keto naan really low carb?

Yes! Keto naan uses low-carb ingredients like almond flour and cheese instead of traditional wheat flour, making it much lower in carbohydrates.

What does keto naan taste like?

Keto naan has a soft, chewy texture with a slightly cheesy flavor that pairs perfectly with curries, grilled meats, and dips.

Can I make keto naan ahead of time?

Absolutely. Keto naan stores very well and can be reheated quickly for easy low-carb meals throughout the week.

How do I store keto naan?

Store naan in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Can keto naan be frozen?

Yes! Freeze cooked naan with parchment paper between each piece in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 2 months.

What’s the best way to reheat keto naan?

Reheat in a hot skillet, air fryer, or oven for the best texture. Microwaving works but can make the naan softer.

Can I make keto naan dairy free?

Traditional keto naan recipes rely heavily on cheese for structure, so dairy-free substitutions can be tricky and may change the texture significantly.
