The Best One Pot Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp Recipe Ever

Home cooks of any skill level can make this easy dish – it’s loaded with fresh lemon and garlic, only takes one pot, and is crazy simple.

There is nothing better than rich, delicious, and buttery garlic shrimp – it’s one of my all-time favorite things to make when I need a hearty, filling dinner in a hurry – plus it’s low calorie, low carb, and goes with pretty much anything from rice and pasta to zoodles, roasted cauliflower, or on it’s own.

The Best One Pot Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp Recipe Ever is my go-to way to make delicious lemon garlic shrimp – with fresh parsley and hints of spicy chili paste to kick it up a notch.

This easy shrimp dinner is crowd pleasing, pretty enough to make for a dinner party (and cooks SO fast, it’s great for a romantic dinner or effortless entertaining – or even just a busy weeknight!), and so delicious you will want to lick the pan when you’re done!

How to Make Lemon Garlic Shrimp

To make this recipe, you need the following ingredients:

  • Olive Oil: Olive oil serves as the cooking fat and adds a rich, fruity flavor to the dish. It also helps sauté the shrimp and garlic to perfection.
  • Shrimp: Shrimp is the star ingredient, providing a sweet and delicate seafood flavor. Peeled and de-veined shrimp are used for convenience and ease of eating.
  • Salt (Celtic Sea Salt): Salt enhances the natural flavors of the ingredients, including the shrimp and garlic, and helps to balance the overall taste of the dish.
  • Garlic: Diced garlic is a powerhouse of flavor in this recipe. It adds a strong and aromatic garlic taste, which is a perfect complement to the sweetness of the shrimp.
  • Chili Sauce: Chili sauce provides a subtle kick of heat and a touch of sweetness to the dish. It adds depth and complexity to the overall flavor profile.
  • Butter: Cubes of butter are added to create a luscious and creamy sauce. Butter not only enriches the sauce but also gives it a smooth and velvety texture.
  • Parsley: Diced parsley is a fresh and vibrant herb that brings a burst of color and a mild, herby flavor to the dish. It’s used both as an ingredient and a garnish.
  • Lemon: Sliced lemon adds bright acidity and a refreshing citrusy aroma to the dish. It balances the richness of the butter and complements the flavors of the shrimp and garlic.

Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, we will use the following process:

  • In large pan, heat olive oil on medium high until shimmery. Add shrimp to pan. Season with salt if desired (if using salted butter, you’ll want to wait until the butter has been added to taste the sauce and make sure it’s not too salty).
  • Toss shrimp to prevent sticking, and cook evenly. Add garlic and butter and stir. When garlic is soft and fragrant, about 3 minutes with occasional stirring to prevent burning, add lemons and chili paste and stir to mix. Toss to coat shrimp evenly with chili and butter sauce.
  • When shrimp is just opaque and no longer grey, it is cooked. Do not overcook!
  • Remove from heat and serve immediately over pasta, rice, vegetables, or on it’s own!

Tips to make The Best One Pot Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp Recipe Ever

The Best One Pot Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp Recipe Ever is crazy easy – but there are a couple of tips and tricks to ensure shrimp that is bursting with flavor in under 15 minutes!

Don’t Overcook Shrimp. Shrimp will continue cooking in the pan for a few minutes even after you pull it off the heat – so be sure to pull it the second the shrimp is no longer gray and has turned opaque. Overcooked shrimp is gummy and can taste fishy – perfect shrimp is buttery, slightly sweet, and doesn’t smell or taste fishy.

Keep the tails on or off. I like to leave the shrimp tails on when serving this dinner in a way I care about the presentation (like at a semi-fancy dinner party or guests I’d like to impress) because it simply looks prettier – but I often take them off when making this for a quick and easy dinner or a romantic meal. I do like that keeping shrimp tails on can give extra shrimp flavor to the dish – but they can be a pain to peel as you eat if you’re in a hurry, serving to children, or want to look cute when eating your meal!

Add chili slowly. I love incredibly spicy food – I am known to ask restaurants to make me cry when I order. This dish is not incredibly spicy – but can be made less or more spicy depending on your taste. If you’re a bit skittish about heat, start with 1 teaspoon and add a little bit at a time, tasting as you go, to get a heat level you like. You can always add more – but you can’t take it back!

Swap chili sauce for chili paste if desired. I used chili paste in this recipe, but you can swap it out for sweet chili sauce for a bit milder flavor – it changes the flavor slightly, but is an amazingly delicious take on this easy garlic butter shrimp dinner!
