Halloween falls on a Saturday this year (October 31, 2026) – which means so more time for spooky treats, costume parades, and a big, fun Halloween Party before the trick-or-treating begins! Every year, we host a friends group Halloween party – and this year will be no different!

This roundup has all my favorite easy Halloween recipes from Sweet C’s: adorable mummy mains, spooky cookies and dips, festive drinks, and – my favorite idea for this year – a big dinner for hosting friends, with tailgate-style recipes that are made to share, cozy, comforting and warm since Halloween can be pretty chilly!

My Pro Tip

What should I make for dinner before trick-or-treating?

Something hearty, hands-free, and ready when you are. A slow cooker meal (like cheesesteaks, green chile, or soup) plus one fun Halloween main (like mummy hot dogs) and a couple of dips keeps everyone fueled without you stuck in the kitchen.

Tailgate-Style Trick-or-Treat Dinner

Treat Halloween night like game day! Set up a buffet on the kitchen island, in the driveway, or on a folding table by the front door so families can grab a bite between candy runs – and neighbors can join in too. These recipes stay warm, travel well, and are easy to eat in costume.

Halloween Night Timeline (Make-Ahead Game Plan)

  • Day before: Make cookies, dips, pinwheels, deviled eggs, and potato salad. Chop toppings for the taco bar.
  • Morning: Start the slow cooker main or soup.
  • 2 hours before trick-or-treating: Assemble mummy hot dogs or meatloaf, and set out plates, napkins, and foil for wrapping handhelds.
  • 1 hour before: Bake the mummies and fries. Warm the dip in a small slow cooker.
  • Before heading out: Eat! Then switch the slow cooker to warm.
  • After trick-or-treating: Warm cider, soup, and dessert are waiting for cold, happy trick-or-treaters.

Tailgate Trick-or-Treat Tips

  • Keep it warm. Slow cookers on the “warm” setting keep mains and dips ready for hours.
  • Think handheld. Foil-wrapped sandwiches and soup in mugs are easy to eat in costume.
  • Set up a driveway station. A folding table with a slow cooker, cups of cider, and a candy bowl turns your house into the neighborhood hangout.
  • Use disposable or insulated cups for soup and drinks on the go.
  • Label allergy-friendly foods if you’re feeding neighbors.
  • Fill up before candy. A hearty, protein-packed dinner helps prevent the sugar crash.
