How To Wilt Spinach

One of the reasons I like to make creamed spinach from scratch is all the flavor you get from freshly wilted spinach.

To wilt spinach quickly and easily from scratch, using fresh spinach, follow the tips below:

-Wilt spinach individually, in batches, in a large pot with a little water at the bottom of the pan to prevent it from sticking.

Work in batches to wilt all the spinach, tossing frequently so it wilts evenly.

-Boil spinach for 1 minute exactly, and then add to batch of ice water to prevent from overcooking.

Can creamed spinach be made ahead of time?

Creamed spinach can be made ahead and reheated before a big dinner to help save stove and oven space.
Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container until ready to serve.

Spinach can be stored in an airtight container for up to four days, or frozen for four months.
