New Sew Tote Embellishments

I love the dollar section of Target- don’t you? While there recently, I found some lovely little tea towels for $1 per two pack. I didn’t know what I would use them for, but I just knew my tub of newly discovered fabric mod podge would help me turn these into something fabulous!

Grab some fun valentines towels from your dollar section (or dollar store), some fabric totes, and come make some fun girly bags that would make perfect valentine’s gifts for your little ladies!

I have a bunch of tote bags I bought before Christmas from save-on-crafts.com that were $2.50 each. I like to have them on hand since they make fabulous gifts- and are so easy to decorate. With two of those, and a tea towel of each color, I grabbed my scissors, mod podge, a paint sponge, and went to work!

First, I cut a large section of the towel that had an embroidered heart and ribbon on it. I made small folds in the fabric, like you would for pinning a pleat- but instead of pinning and sewing, I laid down a line of mod podge, and glued the pleat in place. I continued to make four pleats for the section of fabric.

Next, I spread out plenty of mod podge across the back of my pleated section, and pressed it onto the bag where I wanted it placed. I then cut thin strips of other towel colors and mod podged them on as well.

To finish off the cute design, I wanted to see if fabric mod podge could hold up to make a fabric rosette. I dabbed some glue on the bag, and then started twisting and tucking fabric to make a rosette, mod podging the fabric in place as I went. I finished it off by pushing down on it for a couple of seconds to keep it in place.

I did another towel in a similar design- except I didn’t pleat this one because I loved the fun ric rac design on the towel.

Don’t you think these are so sweet? And combined, the grand total was $8- although I actually only used a little bit of all of the towels (stay tuned…. many more projects using them coming up!!!).

None of the companies/products I mentioned above compensated me or contacted me in any way for this post. These are all things I just really love!

What is your favorite Target Dollar Section find?

I really love this project idea, but I think I would rather use my sewing machine. Check out Dollar Tree and 99 Cents Only stores for cute seasonal tea towels and embellishments. Is the fabric MP- finished tote machine washable ? I did not know that fabric MP could be used as glue,

Yea- for a permanent one or one you want to wash, sewing is the way to go- but the mod podge works as a great glue as a way for people who can’t sew.
